A Brief Introduction to Patenting Inventions

(Attend IN PERSON or on ZOOM - See below)

Presenter: Dave Bassett

Presentation Overview:

Many people come up with a great idea for something novel. But they don’t know how to get that idea made, marketed, and sold. While those topics are beyond the scope of this presentation, you will learn how to protect that idea with a patent while you’re figuring-out the rest of it.

While a patent could be a great tool to have, there are some ‘do’s and don’ts’ that you should know before you try to get a patent. At this talk, you will get the following:

  • An overview of the patent system and the steps you need to take to obtain a patent,
  • Some good practices that can improve the likelihood you will receive a patent, and
  • Some items that an inventor needs to avoid to keep from making their own invention un-patentable.

Key Learning #1: Learn what is patentable and how to obtain a patent if you have a patentable idea.

Key Learning #2: Actions to take to help keep your invention patentable.

Key Learning #3:Actions to avoid because they might make your invention un-patentable.
